According to an article written by Sourabh Singh on Essentially Sports, the Brooklyn Nets are interested in negotiating a trade for former All-Star and All-Defensive payer, Jrue Holiday. Over the last three months, the Nets have been rumoured to be interested in a third All-Star calibre player to form a big three. From Bradley Beal to now Jrue Holiday, the Nets are eager and have already lined-up certain available assets for other teams to trade for if they are interested. In terms of Jrue Holiday, the proposed trade is Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen, Dzanan Musa and a protected first-round pick in exchange for the former All-Star! This trade would provide needed scoring off the bench and a reliable center for the New Orleans Pelicans while the Nets would receive the best defensive guard in the NBA today! The only downside to this trade is that Jrue Holiday is an expensive player to acquire. Even though he has been averaging 18 plus points in the last few seasons while carrying his team defensively, the Nets would be limited in signing free agents for many years to come. However, the Nets in the last six seasons have cleaned up their front-office while building up to this very point of signing two superstars in Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. The Nets have also granted these superstars incredible depth of scoring and defence, two aspects that a team needs to win games. The 2019-20 season may have been an irrelevant season for the Brooklyn Nets, but next season will begin their dominance in the Eastern Conference!

With the Brooklyn Nets being interested in Jrue Holiday, what will Holiday bring to the table, and why is Brooklyn willing to give up this many assets?

In the 2018 NBA playoffs, the New Orleans Pelicans made it to the playoffs and faced off against the three-seeded Portland Trailblazers, who were projected to sweep the Pelicans. However, Jrue Holiday took that prediction personally and unlocked the greatest defensive performance in his entire career and would be the main reason why the New Orleans Pelicans would move on to the second round where they would face the Golden State Warriors. Unfortunately, their dominance was short-lived but what New Orleans accomplished that season was beyond expectation and only beat the Blazers due to how well Jrue Holiday managed to defend Damian Lillard and CJ McCullom. With this upset being the biggest story of the first round that season, Jrue Holiday would gain the respect of every player in the NBA while being regarded as the most underrated and underappreciated player in the NBA today! As great as he is on defence, Holiday will never win a championship in New Orleans and deserves to be on a contender to contribute his terrific defence while being a reliable third option on offence.

Suppose the Brooklyn Nets successfully trade for Jrue Holiday. In that case, the Nets could become the best defensive team in the NBA as they would possess three terrific defenders in their starting line-up being Kevin Durant, Jrue Holiday, and DeAndre Jordan. The guard duo of Holiday and Irving is precisely what the Nets need to succeed. Holiday does not require the ball to be impactful hence why his number one goal is to defend the best guard or forward on the floor while granting easy offensive looks to Kyrie Irving. Irving is portrayed as a point guard in the NBA, but his game screams shooting guard as he is a natural scorer and can virtually do anything on the game's offensive side. However, with Jrue Holiday, he would be a facilitator and would most likely average a career-high in assists if he is willing to take a reduced role on the offensive end. Lastly, Jrue would be the final and essential piece to complete this team as they need a defensive anchor at the guard position. Spencer Dinwiddie is a fantastic player and has done a lot for this organization. However, with the Nets having championship aspirations, the best asset that Brooklyn can attain is Jrue Holiday, the piece that would complete this puzzle. Giving up Jarrett Allen hurts even more as he is an underrated defensive center in the NBA while being a big body in the paint. With Brooklyn offering DeAndre Jordan a four-year deal, that signing only proved that Jarrett Allen would not be in their future plans to pursue a championship.

In the end, this trade works for both teams as the Pelicans get younger and have more cap-space while the Brooklyn Nets attain their final piece to complete their dynasty. Durant and Irving are all the scoring a team needs, but Brooklyn also has other options such as Caris Levert, Joe Harris (if he re-signs), Garrett Temple and if this trade is successful, Jrue Holiday! The Nets have all the pieces to become successful, and with the Eastern Conference being the weaker conference in the NBA, the only real threats that this team has is the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics. The addition of Jrue Holiday is needed if the Nets want to ensure a championship in many years to come!
